Look Kitten...

I don't know who created this, but, I think it is funny. I can't even remember where I got this - thanks to whomever created it, though. I guess I really shouldn't post something like this, I'm sure it is copyrighted.

Thanks for the humor, whoever you are.

Airplane Geek

I am airplane geek. No, it's true.

I went to the airport last weekend just to look around, I wasn't headed anywhere. Now, I didn't go into the terminal, no, I went to RDU's observation deck. Ah-ha! I am not the only airplane geek in Raleigh. There are even enough of us that RDU built us a tree house.

See others flock to airplane nerdery at the RDU observation deck.

I understand, though, most people, and I betting as high as 95% of people, aren't really that interested. At least not enough to go to the airport just to watch airplanes¹. But, lots of people go to the airport. Air travel is so common that most don't give it a second thought. That's a shame.

I'm going to try and change that. Stay tuned, next installment, how to leave RDU.
_______________
¹ To tell the truth, if I had access to an airplane and the money to fly it, I wouldn't be at the airport watching airplanes either.

My iPhone Picks

Here are some of my currect favorite iPhone apps.

Labyrinth Lite (free)
Great use of the accelerometer. Fun to play. Good way to demo the iPhone's ability to detect orientation.
Level (.99)
Once you have demo'd the above, Level can show the doubters how useful an iPhone can be.
Tap Tap Revenge (free)
Fun game that uses the touch screen.
Urbanspoon (free)
A slot machine that finds tasty restaurants in your area? How fun is that!?!
midomi (free)
Find music by humming a tune. Makes use of the mic that a phone would have. I wonder if it can find the Enchilada Song - thx @rshannonsmith

Many thanks to those that demo'd these to me. I hope I get to hear about other favorites. Feel free to leave in the comments.

Important Milestone
I have now posted twice - woohoo - I won't make this list. Of course here is a thought on one post wonders.

Is it Al or Allen ?

I went to a party recently and met a great group of people none of whom I had met before.  I was being introduced as Allen but if I introduced myself, it was as Al. Inevitability I was asked, "is it Al or Allen?"  That's a difficult question for me.

Seems to me names are something given to you, even forced upon you. You don't get to choose your name. Somehow I ended up with two names,  Allen and Al. It's strange when someone asks you if you want to be called this or that. The first answer I come up with is always "Hmmm, I never thought about it."

I'm not sure why I have decided to blog again, I just have. I did this back in the early days of blogging, the 1920's. It was just a proof of concept thing back then. We'll see where this goes. I'll try not to be too blognorant.

I do tweet - can be followed @LQQK

I am a member of the Triangle Macintosh Users Group. It is a great group of folks from all backgrounds that want to get more from their Mac. Sign up for the TMUG email list, it's free.  It is fun to be part of an on-line community, if you don't have a Mac question to ask, maybe you can answer one. TMUG's list is not high volume, usually a question or two a day.

I have titled this blog A. Emory, simply for a lack of a better name. That will change, I hope. But, like I said, names are usually given not chosen.
